You probably never knew that there could be a wrong way to do something so simple as brushing your hair. But there is, brushing your hair wrong could suffer serious hair issues like breakages and majorly damage your strands.
But with the right brush and being aware of the most common brushing mistakes, can help keep your hair soft, strong, and shiny that you'll make it a staple in your everyday hair routines.
We share some common brushing mistakes you may not realize you're making:
Using the Wrong Brush
Brushes are not necessarily a one-size-fits-all situation. Choose a brush based on your hair texture. For fine or thin strands choose a brush with soft bristles and a rubber cushion, which allows the bristles to be more flexible. Coarser hair, opt for a brush with a combo of nylon and boar bristles to make detangling thicker strands a breeze.
Brushing your hair from top to bottom
Most women make the mistake of brushing from roots to ends on dry hair, which creates more knots and ultimately adds unnecessary damage. This can actually cause tons of breakage. When brushing your hair, you should always start a few inches from the ends and brush it downward, moving upwards towards the scalp with each brush, so that you don't pull on it and cause damage.
Not Brushing Before Washing
Hair is weakest when it’s wet, and wet hair is more prone to tangling. To prevent tangles, give your hair a brush before hopping in.
Using the same brush on wet hair
Wet hair is especially prone to breakage. When detangling wet strands, use a comb or a brush that is specifically made to gently do the job, like our shower brush.
